If it were to be an air pocket issue, wouldn't it only leak when it was turned on and heating up? Mine will leak even if it has been off for a day.
Well when I first noticed the leak, it was obviously coming from the drain plug so I tightened that and thought I had it fixed. Water was no longer collecting in the front face of the HW. But then I started to notice was dripping down from inside of the enclosure which seemed like a separate leak.
Yesterday, on a whim, I tried tightening the drain plug even more. I haven't seen any water leaking since, however it has been pretty warm the last couple of days and I have noticed that the leaking was more prone to happen when it was cold out. So it may have been just that simple, but we'll see what happens when it gets cold.
