Actually, the technology IS already in the US. My next door neighbor works on the family farm. They farm a LOT of field. My neighbor was complaining to me a few weeks ago. He said his job is simply too boring. Their tractors are all run on GPS. They program in the field, turn on the engine, and the tractor does it all. Cultivates, plants, and harvests. It knows exactly how to turn around, make perfectly straight rows and never overlaps itself. The "driver" just sits there.
I saw him a couple weeks ago and he was all charged up and energized. He said he finally got to drive the tractor that was not self-automated and he had to actually turn the steering wheel!
The technology has been in use in the USA for quite a while now. We're just not aware of it. No wonder some of those tractors and combines cost 3/4 of a million dollars!
