Ice cubes to clean black tank

I had to replace the dump valve on my black tank - started leaking.
Local RV place said to be sure to run fresh water through it after the contents drain; I turn on the pump and hold the flush valve down for a minute or so. Too early yet to see how effective this will be long term; but when I drained it after a trip a few days ago, it was the cleanest drain job I've done yet, with just a few drops from the drain pipe when I took the cover off.
