Thanks for clearing that up. I'm glad I slowed down to the 55 speed limit. I went through about 5 exits in a row with left exits. How far ahead of time is sufficient to get in the left lane?
As in all situations like this, a bit of common sense is in need here. Obviously if you know where you're going, and the exit you need is on the LEFT side of a freeway instead of the normal right side, and a CHP is approaching your position and or, is following you, and you're in the far left lane due to the need to get ready for an exit, he/she will more than likely watch to see that you take that exit.
If you don't and just continue to travel in the higher speed lane and, there is no further left-sided off ramps in the near future, well, you might guess the rest of the story.
