WRONG: The regular limit in Cally is 70, not 65.
WRONG: Your right! I made a mistake in quoting 65MPH. It is 70mph as far as I know or the speed limit is what is posted.
CORRECT: When you tow a vehicle or trailer, or drive a bus or three or more axle truck, you must drive in the right hand lane or in a lane specially marked for slower vehicles. If no lanes are marked and there are four lanes or more in your direction, you may only drive in either of the two lanes closest to the right edge of the road."
A three axle motor home is not considered a truck or bus, so if it is not towing it is not required to follow the regulations for a bus or truck, just like it is not required to stop at weigh stations.
CORRECT: the Maximum speed limit in California is 65 UNLESS posted 70 mph {VC22349 & 22356}. The Maximum on two lane roads (one lane in each direction) if not posted something else is 55 mph {VC 22349}
CORRECT: no one can tow another vehicle or a trailer at a speed over 55 mph {VC 22406}
The basic speed law {VC 22350}, which says in other situations you can drive at a safe speed does not apply when towing. So even if you feel you were driving at a safe speed, if ticketed for going over 55 mph while towing or over the "maximum speed limit", your opinion of safe speed is not a defense.
While I agree at most any time you can see vehicles driving over the speed limits, that is an individual decision and is not a legal justification to drive over the limit. Whatever speed you choose to drive, please drive safely for the benefit of all of us... I've been teaching these laws to police recruits for over 25 years and spoke up here because I wouldn't want someone to rely on inaccurate info and get pulled over.
