You most likely just have to worry about the potential for field mice, not rats.
Field mice are attracted to the wiring in vehicles because the coating on the wires is actually soy based. I worked in a car dealership and saw too many cases of chewed wires to count. Even in daily drivers driving 50 miles/day. You are doing everything you can to be vigilant and have minimized your risk as much as possible. I urge you to stay away from the use of poisons unless you are certain no pets have even a remote chance of contact.
The suggested mouse-house traps are best and very effective.
