One thing I picked up on in reading all the replies is there are a lot of people that the RV park is their destination. I was like that when I was still working and had very limited time off. My main goal was to rest and enjoy my time away from work. Now the RV park is where I park my condo and go explore the surrounding area. I know I would get restless if all I did was set in one place.
I am wondering why you can't find "warm" places? Hear is the weather forecast for south Texas.

Key West's Average Temperature vs.
Pharr Texas Average Temperature
As you can see, Key west is 14 degrees warmer in the winter on average. But even South Florida is 4 degrees warmer than Southern Texas. But I get your point -- South Texas looks like a temperate place to winter. Just not as warm as SoFla.
