I think you will find that your needs change over time as your travel styles change. I would recommend start with a good used one and then decide what features you don't have that you really need. We have always purchased used RVs and generally have had very good success.
We have done the travel trailer, 5th wheel, then a 23ft Class C. Slept in the overhead bunk. Wife did not like it and she was not comfortable driving it because of the 8' 6" width. Seemed like every time she took the wheel we ran into road construction. Driving 55mph down a narrow lane with obstructions on each side was very uncomfortable.
Moved to a 26ft B+. Its not as tall, 7" narrower and corner bed with a slide out in the living area. More aerodynamic design, easier to drive, dual pane windows, fiberglass roof, no big overhang in the front. Seems more solid driving down the road and wife is more comfortable driving it. We travel 2 days to 60 days at a time and for us at this time in our lives the 26ft is great. Not to small, not to large, easy to drive and easy to maintain.
No matter what you choose...think you will eventually wind up with bigger or smaller or narrower or ????? Pick one and start the adventure.
