You can drop the motor/gearbox without taking the steps off. The three long bolts have small nuts on the top but you can reach those. Be very careful not to lose the small spacers (6 total)that are installed in two different places. After it's down you can see how the motor is removed. I removed the center pivot with the hex head to clean it up with emery cloth, lube it and reinstall it. My step doesn't stick now. Also lube the linkage pivots.
