Installing Air Bags w/ Compressor

Posted a week or so ago on my desire to go with Ride Rite air bags and compressor. Decided to do that and have everything ordered. The bags have come in already, but the compressor hasn't arrived. I got under belly of the coach last night and can't seem to find a location I feel would be best for the compressor. Has anyone else installed one of these systems and if so, where did you locate the compressor as to have good access to electricity as well as to not have to plumb the air hoses everywhere? I'd also be most appreciative if you had photos or video of the installation...I'm a very visual person. There are plenty of videos of the Ride Rite installation on passenger trucks, but so far no one has made one of them being installed on a motorhome....at least not that I can find.

Thanks!

  • Awesome. Thanks for the photos. Makes sense. Innovative too!
  • Thanks Dale! That's what I needed to see! Couldn't get a visual of how everything came together.
  • Any open are on the chassis frame rail will work to install the compressor. Closest to the house battery bank is best to limit power wire run. I plumbed the system with plastic 1/4" air tubing. Works OK but the flow volume of 1/4" tube is a bit low. At 150 PSI I can inflate pretty much anything but with a low flow rate takes a bit of time.

Mounted on the passenger side maybe 5' front the front axle. Pressure activated switch for the compressor is in the battery locker on the other side of the frame.

The one problem I have is there's no easy way to drain condensation from the tank. Not desired to be mount as you see it in the attached image. Part of my winterizing routine is to dismount the tank and drain it.

    Front bag passenger side.

Rear bag passenger side. Driver's side is identical. Added Schrader valves on the bottom edge of the front and rear caps for tire or other item inflation.
  • I put my compressor in a basement compartment that had the necessary 12 volt power. This keeps it out of the weather and and away from road debris. I drilled small holes to bring in the airlines.
