Instead of the recliner...

The previous owners of my Fleetwood Fiesta removed the recliner that used to be behind the passenger seat. I like the extra space and I want to use it as a place to put a guitar amp, but I don't want it tipping over or moving around while driving. The amp is roughly 2 feet wide by 10 inches deep by 2.5 feet tall. I plan to have it up against the side wall.

The width should keep it from tipping due to acceleration or braking, but the depth would leave it vulnerable to tipping over during a right hand turn. I have thought about securing some sort of strap to the wall or to the floor....but that's not easily reversible, and I'm nervous about drilling into the floor or wall. I have also thought about building some sort of a stand with long "feet" that would make it harder to tip over.

Any thoughts?

  • Does the side or floor have carpeting? If so glue the "loop" side of Velcro to the bottom and/or back of the amp. It will stick to the carpeting well enough to keep it in place.

Haha. Pikes = pounds in the world of iphone auto correct. As per usual, when I tried to actually type "pikes" just now, autocorrect was fighting me. The struggle is real.

There is a 6x8 rectangular patch on the carpet. I'm assuming this is where the recliner was mounted. Won't know for sure unless I cut it and pull it up.

  • As far is it becoming a projectile, I'm hoping that the solution I find will prevent that.

The bracket for the recliner is in kind of an awkward spot, and the previous owners patched the hole in the carpet. I'm not sure If the original bracket is even under there. Would it stick out above the floor a little? The patch job is flush with the floor.

It weighs about 60-70 pikes. Adhesive night be pushing it.

Regarding the wall studs, I'm not familiar with RV construction. What are the studs made of? Are they as solid as the studs in a house?
  • Depending on the weight, you might try one of the 3M products that have the "pull to release" adhesives with a hook. I use them for mounting pictures and clocks in the coach and have never had a problem. I also used them with a strap to secure several small tables while traveling. I did discover after forgetting to secure the tables that the coach rode well enough they wouldn't move even without the strap.
  • I have the base speaker for our surround sound sitting on the floor behind the front passenger seat in our motor home. It hasn't moved since setting it there six years ago. If you have a concern, could you use or repurpose the bracket that held the recliner in place?
  • Not something you'd rather load into the lower bunk of your Fiesta when you're on the road?

Wouldn't want that as a projectile if you had to hit the brakes hard.

First.. Locate two studs beside where the amp will sit,, Run a pair of EYE head lag bolts into them.

Then you have two chioces. One is a ratcheting cargo strap.. (The kind with hook ends not the full loop kind though that will work too)

or the simple pull tight straps.. Again with hooks.. This is the one i'd try first

EaSily removed when you wish to use the amp, Easily replaced when the amp is put back. I have a bunchy of 'em here.
