In many states the insurance company need only pay up to the current fair retail value, often middle or low blue book depending on mileage and condition. Also: the truck that hit you, was it a commercial truck and did the company have insurance, or was it a private contractor with some strange co-insurance. Was there a third party involved (car running light, dog on road) which might create a shared liability in your state. You may need an attorney, or at least an insurance expert for your state.
