INSURANCE

ok had a beaver made in 01 and changed to a 08 holiday rambler and got my state farm quote of double the amount. ive had state farm for 31 years on everything but is there a better price on motorhome ins? any help is greatly appreciated
  • I have nothing bad to say about State Farm Insurance. When one of their policy holders ran a red light and broadsided our vehicle they stepped right up and handled all aspects of the claim professionally and fairly.
That said, I agree that it is important that you check various insurance companies on a regular basis. I check mine every year, especially if my rate goes up for any reason.
In my search, I have found each insurance company has "special" discounts that they MAY give you, if you ask. Among some of those discounts are:
    1) Good driving record
    2) Good credit rating
    3) Private Pilot discount
    4) Safe driving course discount
    5) Homeowner discount
    6) Multiple vehicle discount
    7) High net worth discount
    8) College graduate discount
    9) Miles driven for each vehicle
    10) Military discount for active and retired and ex-military discount
Some of these discounts seem odd but I guess each company has their reasons. In any case, when checking around, ASK about what discounts they offer that you may qualify for.
I won't say what discounts I get but I pay under $300.00 per year for full coverage including an agreed upon value coverage on our Class A coach and $5000 for personal belongings. The company that I use only writes policies in 26 states and Texas is not included.
  • All ins co will pay to fix your vehicle. I now have no loyalty to them and shop every year. Sometimes no savings, but sometimes big savings. I now have an independent agent that shops it for me and i get a quote or 2 to keep him honest. He has been very good at saving me money. I have ins with Safeco and Dairyland and still have a policy with a Farmers agent that Safeco wouldnt cover. When i switched my motorcycles from Progressive to Dairyland they asked if they lowered the premium would i stay and i told them they should have lowered it a week before and said goodbye.

One thing I have found when it comes to insurance is something that was told to us in a Song back in the 50s

    The Song title: SHOP AROUND.

When I got my "new" used towed last Sept, I did a shop around, Wound up with E-Surance.

Just made a phone call, got a quote about half what I'm paying now.

    Will change on renewal date.
  • Currently with Geico on all our vehicles.
Was with state farm, but they tried to double our rates.
Got a quote from good sam, they doubled that!
    Geico's rates are very reasonable
  • Scars brings up a good point. It's important to keep in mind that price isn't always everything. You have to look at how reputable the carrier is and if they'll be there when you need them? Keep in mind, are you "buying an insurance card to make your vehicle legal"? or, are you buying "insurance coverage" for your vehicle? I'm not saying that the higher the premium, the better the insurance. No, not at all. Just something to keep in mind when price shopping different insurance providers.
  • Hi Mike, congrats on the new rig. If you compare your old policy to the new one, comp(OTC) & collision are the coverages that got a lot more costly. Higher deductibles might reduce the bill but Texas had a statewide rate increase recently. We've had progressive thru USAA for 40+ years and know there are cheaper ins. companies but reputation for claims handling makes for peace of mind.
