Interior lights
I would like to replace my interior lighting. Wedge type bulbs are in there now (12 volt of course) Wattage unknown.. What should I use to replace them with LED type.? Nice and bright..

- I agree with the buy one and check it out first. Didn't do that on the 921 replacements and was disappointed. Here's a comparision of LEDs I did from a couple of years ago. Bought the LEDs from superbrightleds.com

The rule of thumb for me was to get between 400-500 LUMENS per light fixture and most people like the WARM WHITE type LEDs that seem to look much like incandescent bulbs. Alot of folks will only buy one for the first install to make sure it is what they are expecting.
I dumped around $200 into my first go around and although the LED lights were great I had issues with RFI where the ones I got had built-in regulators on the LED BOARDS that would operate from a 6-20VDC DC source or something like that.
I first ended up with COMMAND ELECTRONICs PN 170-111 which are 510 LUMEN Boards that stick up inside the DUAL and SINGLE Ceiling light fixtures - They put off excellent light. For my other sockets Porch Light- a couple of Bed Area lights I used the LEDTRAILER ROUND LEDs PN 921-380 which are 380 LUMENS. They are excellant lights as well.
The RFI generated signals from the LED BOARD regulator chip circuit in my case would totally blank out my HDTV signals when I was using the OTA BATWING antenna to pick up the NATIONAL BROADCAST Digital TV signals from local towns. I also could not pick up the WX ALERT VHF Radio transmissions and my VHF/UHF Ham radio radios would not work.
Not saying this will happen to you but has happened to many others on here...
My way out was to use a LED LIGHT NON REGULATOR BOARD... I used the SMD BOARD 36-1210 type LED 252 LUMENS (Ebay from CHINA @ $4.99) that does not incorporate an ON-BOARD regulator that allows the board to operate between 8-30VDC using what is known as a BUCK REGULATOR circuit. I have tried a couple of these non-regulated boards and they work fine with NO RFI signals being produced. With my DC Voltage range of 13.2 to 14.4VDC they seem to work just fine but the experts tell me their life span may be reduced somewhat as their operating voltage range spec is not that high but at $4.99 each probably no big deal. I do have a couple of the china boards with a few group of three LEDS lights not burning. When it gets too bad to see then I will just replace the board with another $4.99 board. I purchased 10 spares of these boards and still have ten spares left after four years of use.
Since I have the DUAL Ceiling light fixtures that turned on both sides at same time I had to modify my old fixtures to a three way switch version models which allows me to turn on one side or the other or off. I have the American brands with regulators in one side and the China brand without regulators in the other. This way I can switch to the NON RFI type boards when camping off the power grid. Seems to work out pretty good for me doing it this way. Keep in mind all of my incandescent light bulbs are the 921 wedge type... Like said above just order ONE to try out and not get a whole a set for around $200... They might not be what you expect...
None of the 15-50 Lumen size LEDs worked for me - even in the bed room directed swivel lights... Way too dim... Changing to LEDs really worked great for us camping off the power grid and they dont get any where near as hot as the incandescent bulbs. Try grabing the old style after it has been on for 10-minutes. My old bulbs had already started burning the plastic holders and turning them brown. I also didnt get the LED diffusers with the first round of LEDs. One of those companies I listed has the replacement diffusers lens available which really make a big difference. This spreads the LEDs light beams out better then the original light assy has in them. I am still using these boards today for the past 4 years now.

Just passing along for your info only - The thing learned for me was only BUY ONE and try it out. If it is too YOUR liking then buy the rest of them...
I'm sure you will hear both sides to this story... I got the same results from my 2008 OFF-RoAD POPUP trailer as well as my 2005 Fifth wheel trailer using the REGULATED TYPE LED BOARDS.
Just BUY ONE to try it out...

Thanks for this info Roy,I ordered 20 of the T10 28s MD bulbs from China for 15.00 free shipping. So if these dont work I'll go back to the original or order what you got. We dont dry camp and stay only in RV Parks. If they dont work without all this tv interference I havent lost all that much money..Your article was excellent..Thanks for taking the time.

Yep, without a doubt, the best LED source there is on the net for LEDs. They do a great job of explaining their bulbs, the lumens, the "CCT" or, Color Core Temp, otherwise also known as Kelvin, the degree of light broadcast, and much, much more. They explain the bases of all the bulbs and, how to cross reference.
The higher the number, the whiter the light and, eventually into the Blue spectrum. They tell you to go with a red LED if it's going behind a red lens. Yep, they're a bit on the high side of cost but, they're seriously easy to deal with. I did all the interior and all the exterior compartment lights a couple of years ago using them and to date, all those bulbs are still performing outstandingly.

- Did a full interior LED conversion a couple of years ago using LEDs from Ebay and a few from USA sources. They have all performed well and as far as I can tell, all were made in China, including the LEDs sourced from USA suppliers, which were about 4 times the price of the Ebay products. We've replaced all our wedge type bulbs with these type bulbs. We prefer the White instead of the warm white. Haven't had any problems in the 2 years since we replaced them.
