Since 2007, Phoenix USA has been installing whole house inverters in all their rigs as standard equipment. We bought our Phoenix Cruiser 2350 in May 2007 brand new so we have 7 years of history with ours. Pictures of our rig and the inverter installed, can be seen by CLICKING HERE.
Our 12V inverter is a 2000 watt Tripp Lite. It works off twin coach batteries and it has performed well, never giving us any kind of trouble. It also performs as a charger for the batteries when getting 110v from either the generator or 110v power pole. The batteries will otherwise get charged directly from the E350-V10 alternator.
Phoenix USA wired up our rig such that all outlets are inverted-active except one. Also the inverter does not supply 110v power to the microwave/convection oven or the roof-top a/c unit. That one dead 110v outlet I mentioned, is by the dinette table. It works only off plug-in 110v and the generator, I wonder if intentionally done so that people don't plug in a power-hog toaster there as would be tempting. The inverter powers up all other outlets including the GFI in the bathroom. We run both TVs, surround sound system, coffee maker (pictured in that clicky), and I even caught my wife using her hair drier a couple times. Once every few years first trip out for the season, she'll forget about my restriction. I feel the hair dryer is too hard on the batteries unless the E350-V10 engine is running.
Sometime between 2007 and today, Phoenix USA switched from the 2000 watt Tripp Lite to an 1800 watt Xantrex. I don't know why, and I don't know how well they perform.
I am very pleased with our 2000 watt Tripp Lite, so I endorse it considering it's application in our rig. If it ever died, I'd get another just like it.
I can't imagine what it would take to retro-fit another rig to be setup like ours, but I can't say it would be impossible either.
