Inverter settings question

My stupid question of the week. Can someone help me out with this switch in my 2004 Coachmen Cross Country 370DS? Where should I set it while plugged in vs boon docking vs driving and storage?

My owners manual does not address it at all. Thanks in advance for any help!

Auto invert means that anytime the coach loses power the inverter will kick in an power those 120V outlets to which it is attached.

Just re-read this. So not every outlet in the coach is necessarily hooked up to the inverter?

So....if I am not plugged in and not running the generator BUT the inverter is set to "auto" I still might not see power at every outlet, correct?

You are correct - chances are the inverter output is only wired to some of your outlets. I have a Tripp-Lite setup just like this one by the way. I have to remember to turn my fridge to GAS instead of AUTO when my inverter is running the coach off batteries, as the fridge draws a lot of current.

  • Thanks. So can I apply the same rules when my generator is running as when I am plugged in?
  • Auto invert means that anytime the coach loses power the inverter will kick in an power those 120V outlets to which it is attached. If you do not want the inverter to kick in an drain your batteries then you would flip it the other way. In that setting, your batteries will still be charged when on shore power but if you lose, or disconnect from, your 120V shore power connection you will have no 120V power available in the coach but you will also have no (minimal) drain on your house batteries. When I am in my coach I always have the inverter set to automatic. If I was storing a coach without power you do not want the inverter to kick in so the switch goes the other way.
