Inverter

Although my machine will run on 12 vdc I chose to use an inverter because it was difficult to run a 12 volt line to the bedroom slide.
My Respironics System One 60 Series machine will operate on a 300 watt modified sine wave inverter. The last time I checked (a few years ago) the Resmed web site said they required a pure sine wave inverter.

The key to using a CPAP with or without a humidifier is BATTERY MANAGEMENT, when shore power is not available. And as stated in my earlier post, no modifications are needed whatsoever. Simply plug into any available female 12 volt receptacle.

Well, first, YOU DO NOT NEED TO GET AN INVERTER for a Sleep Apena machine.

You need to get a machine that is capable of being run on automotive battery power.. Way less expensive than an ivnerter (Bascially same price as one that needs 120 volt so the difference is free or 5 bucks for th 2nd power cord)

Then you run heavy 12 volt lines to the bedroom. (10 amp at least, common 12 acc outlets are rated 10 amps, HD ones 20).

Personally I like better connectors but those need technicial skills to install which many dealers are lacking.

Option two, Google 300 watt true sine wave inverter

most all of 'em are good, Inverter goes near (but not in same air space) as battery and run an extension cord to the bedroom.

Chances are, YOU DO NOT NEED AN INVERTER.

Most CPAP's made today have an optional power cord that connects directly from the machine to any 12 volt female receptacle without the use of an inverter. Call your provider.

I use a Respironics CPAP powered by a dedicated 35 amp AGM battery connected that way. I don't use a humidifier & the battery lasts for 2-3 nights of use
before recharging.

If your machine can use the 12 volts, it will drain your batteries a lot less than the additional "loss" you will have with any inverter that has to convert your 12 volts to 120 volts AC. The inverter itself uses energy so if you can avoid it entirely with 12 volts you will be better off.

Please check your CPAP - Most are DUAL VOLTAGE capable 120VAC and 12VDC

In addition to a sine wave generator they now also have a generator auto start. When batteries drop to low level generator starts.

Four 6 volt batteries connected in series is 24 volts, so double check that. You are probably on 12 volts. If you have the typical 6 volt 230 Ah battery, you'll have a 460 Ah bank at 12 volts, of which half, or 230 Ah, is usable. At 6.7 amps at 120 VAC for the machine, that is 67 amps an hour at 12 volts, or around 800 watts, which would need a 1,000 watt inverter but would deplete your battery bank in around 3 hours after inverter losses. Since everyone else uses these machines with a lot smaller battery with no problems I suspect that your CPAP current draw is wrong, or is already in 12v, so double check that. Electrical things use power, which is watts. Watts is volts times amps, so any time you say a current draw number you also have to specify the voltage, or it's confusing.

Doesn't your rig have an inverter built in? With 4-6 volts, I would think you have a 100w to 200w inverter already. Check your monitor panel to see if there is a reading for the batteries, incoming power and inverter.

I built in a 650w inverter in my 1998 Dolphin and it ran my CPAP all night, no problem.
