I agree with 2Oldman. A small water stain around a skylight may not be a big issue - yes, it leaked. But it may have only leaked during one rain and was repaired directly afterwards. It can happen to the best of us.
As for whether it's hard or soft, it should feel the same as the rest of the ceiling. If the rest is hard and it is soft, then it leaked unattended for some time and likely has some dry rot.
When I bought my clipper, there was some small staining around the kitchen vent and the A/C. I checked all the corners, windows, etc., for additional signs of leaking and found none. So, I bought the clipper and resealed all the vents, windows, seams, etc. After the first rain of the season, I go check for new leaks. Never had any problems. Can't imagine having passed it by because of the small staining - it's been a great little RV and perfect for what I wanted.
