Wow! Quick responses, I like this forum. So a 30+ year old RV will definitely be needing repairs and maintenance, I'm alright with that. I'm also glad to know that $10 grand was overpriced. Maybe I could find an clean older class A for around $5K. Then I wouldn't mind putting some money into it. Today I'm reading up in fuel injection conversion kits for big V8's. That might be a good upgrade in the future.
This motorhome could be a hobby for me too. I'm good at woodworking, and I could learn other stuff as I go, such as plumbing and electrical.
Yes way over priced. I know a man who sold a 85 Tiffin that sat up for 10 years (covered and in great shape) for $2500. He started it about once a month and gave it fresh gas every 5-6 months. Everything on it looked like it was in very good shape except everything on it was OLD. Tires, belts, hoses, etc. Seriously, it would take several thousands of dollars to make the thing road worthy (4-5k probably) and THEN it would still be a coach that is over 30 years old.
I think reliability in RV's is very important as often we travel between long destinations.
If you like mileage, (I have 3 RV's an A, C, and TT) go for a Toyota from the 1990's. You can either get a V-6 or 4 Cylinder model. Be prepared to get new tires and a few engine parts (belts hoses). You can get a lot of miles out of these. I get over 20mpg. With the "better" gas prices these days (I put in quotes because I guess I'm old) the mpg isn't as awesome sounding as it was when gas was $4/gal. Still though it does save and is nice.
