$10k is way too much for a 1985-anything. I'd peg the value at $4k (if absolutely perfect) or less. Mine's an '84 Allegro M-30 that I got basically for free. I have probably $3k into bringing it into the 21st century mechanically. Tires are killer and almost always shot on a rig older than 10-years-old due to age. Like most labors of love, I'm pretty confident that I've invested more than I'd recover if I were to sell it. But the fun we have with it is priceless.
Like someone else said, if fuel cost is your biggest concern you're barking up the wrong tree with a Class A (or for most Cs for that matter). There are operating costs beyond the fuel that will quickly add up, particularly on an older rig. There are always little things to fix or mess with that will nickel and dime you to death.
