As others have surmised, that is a black EPDM roof manufactured by a company known for making membrane style roofing products for buildings.
I've seen a couple roofs like this floating around over the years. The black material is about half the price at a building materials supply company. Cost was probably the motivation for the previous owners decision to go with that product versus the normal RV white EPDM material (approx. half the price). Who knows? He may have been in the roofing business and had a leftover piece from a job.
I'm not sure I would want that on *my* RV for a number of reasons, but it does look like the PO did a decent job with the installation. No respectable RV service facility would have installed that. If you are ok with the black, I'd just run it as-is. It looks like a clean install and I'd just leave it alone. I'm not sure I would put a coating on it if that were me.
Looking beyond the black roof, I guess my main concern would be if the previous owner went cheap on the roof to save a few bucks, what else did he cheapen out on and how will that affect long term ownership of the unit?
