is there a warm route from ohio to arizona

We're in upstate NY and our son lives in Nashville. We have planed to head out to AZ at some point. We were thinking we would take 90 to Ohio and then 71 to 65 down to Nashville (our usual way through KY) to see our son and then pretty much a straight shot on 40 west to Arizona.

Well these are the only two RIGHT answers.....because you can't fool Mother Nature.

Occasionally there still is nasty winter weather in February, sometimes almost all the way to the Gulf coast.

The key is to be flexible in your dates. If you make plans such that you HAVE to leave on Feb. 10 and arrive by Feb. 15, you will be taking a BIG risk.

I-10 can be a no "picnic route" too. Certainly a longer drive from Central OH and facing the same weather concerns getting to warmer weather asap. Give some consideration to I-70 to St Louis. I-44 to Oklahoma City and I-40 on into AZ. Just watch the weather and you'll be fine.It's all good Interstate except for through Indy which can be offset by using I-465.

Set your GPS for Arizona, turn your heater on high(that's where the "warm part" comes in) and start driving per instructions.

I agree about crossing East to West I-20 skirts the south side of the DFW metroplex vs I-10 which goes right through the center of Houston and even the loops around Houston are pretty much all dense city traffic either way you end up on the Katy Freeway section of I-10 which is the widest section of interstate highway in the U.S.(Up to 26 lanes wide in some places) and San Antonio even though a smaller city is just a mess to get through on I-10.

Go south to Florida. And stay there. lol It's dang cold here in Tucson right now.

I would much rather deal with Dallas/Fort Worth traffic than Houston/San Antonio. Well actually we do not deal with any of them. We take US79 to US29 to US190 to I-10. Visiting friends along the way.

Natchez Trace is a favorite route of ours also, but I'd go Natchez and south to I-10 at Baton Rouge instead of Dallas Ft Worth on I-20.
