As a woman well over 65 who just had to get out of the house and on the road...with the dogs. But I travel alone in winter. I am very conservative when traveling alone and stick to major highways and places where my cell phone is active. Then I can use my computer or tablet to locate what I might need. Altho I have heard people knock AAA, when my husband and I locked ourselves out of the RVan outside of Sauk Centre MN, somebody showed up in about an hour to jimmy the door. No cost to us at all. I have worked out various scenarios for if my RVan breaks in my head. I run thru them before I pack up and go so I dont slip into panic mode. And I do have my RVan really checked out before I leave. To be honest, I have a line of credit large enough so I could buy another used van to get home if needed, or, rent a Uhaul or van. This backup is worst case scenario of course. I got a wheel cover on the back... One Life, Live It.
I guess because we tend to buy new cars but we're likely to get a camper van that's 10-15 years old, I'm anticipating problems. You're right though: planning ahead could help avoid problems or at least help us land on our feet if something does go wrong.
And the wheel cover resonates with us. How many people wait till they're retired to travel, only to fall ill or get otherwise sidetracked?
