I think naming is OK, and naming (technically "christening") should be done with a degree of ceremony including oratory and oblation.
Most of us do this lightly, but we are crossing the threshold of tradition, lore, legend... basically superstition... And those gods (lowercase "g" intentional) become particularly irritated (again based on lore) when we attempt to replace a vessel's given identity with another. FAR more involved in a "subsequent christening" than the original one. MUCH more champagne to be poured into the water, etc, etc. Either more "gods" or the ones initially invoked require more oblation for renaming than simply naming. gOOgle "renaming a boat" to have some fun with this. There are many parallels between Boats and RV's. Expensive, High Maintenance Money Pits that provide enjoyment the non-RVers and non-Boaters can't understand. Common sense can't justify Uncommon Enjoyment. There are differences, even though both have "wheels." With a Boat, we try to keep water from coming in through the Bottom: with RV's its from the Top.
