Kayak Inside Trailer

Have experimented , 400 mile round trip , with 39 pound kayak stored on slide roof inside trailer. Did not notice any ill effects. Used a 1 " foam rubber to keep it from sliding around plus some cushion, Interstate are not very smooth ! Has anybody tried this and does anybody have any negative thoughts on this ? Thanks.

  • With 5 th wheel trailer plenty of head room above slide. Wife works slide while I hold kayak up and slide in place. Kayak did not move from original spot. Sitting on foam rubber creates a lot of friction.
  • I don't see any problem doing that if you spread the load out as much as possible. In fact, I think you've come up with a real good solution.
  • How much room do you have above the slide? I have a 7' ceiling height there is only about 6"-8" above the slide. Although I never thought about it, I wouldn't imagine 39 lbs over the length of the kayak would cause any loading issues. Just be sure you cushion it so you don't damage the top of the slide and be sure to add it to your check list as an item to remove BEFORE you hit the slide open button.

  • Hmm, had not thought about that before. Curious to see what others think.
