Looking to purchase a new MH with a residential frig. Heading to the show in Pomona this week just to look. I watched a video about a Thor model, where the residential frig is kept closed with a screw and knob combination between the two doors. It looked like a fine threaded screw, and the operation seemed cumbersome. Is the locking devise needed? Have any of you made your own devise? Do other brands use different locks?Just asking so I will be well informed before I meet the totally uninformed salesperson. Thanks, Gary

On trip one our Maytag broke the latch and we had a gallon of milk to clean up.Ever since we have use a bungy cord and in 16,000 miles no problem

I use a strip of double sided velcro, what I mean by double sided is it has the hook on one side and pile on the other, wrap this around the handles and it has worked fine for 2 years. Just have to remember to put it on. After one mistake we now have it on our preflight check list.kdk

I previously owned a Allegro Bus with residential refrigerator. It would come open on the slightest tight curve. I bought one of the flip down door stops and mounted it at the bottom of the door to flip down and hold the door closed when traveling. Once we arrived, we flipped it up and it locked up till we were ready to hit the road again. I bought one in pewter so it matched the rest of the hardware in the Bus.

We have a Whirlpool residential. Never had it open while on the road. Just drove approx 15,000 miles on all types of roads and terrain. Guess we were lucky. I will think about securing the doors next trip. I do watch for food and containers falling out when I open it on the road or the 1st time we are set up and parked. The LOCKED dishwasher opened one time tho.

Our '06 came factory equipped with a Whirlpool side by side house hold refreg. (freezer one side, refrig the other). It came open one time the 1st season we had it. DW got all excited and insisted we get some kind of lock for going down the road. I said "OK" but somehow I just never got a "roundtuit". Doors have not come open since.

We have the Maytag Residential French door Fridge and have had no problem with the doors coming open and we use nothing to hole the doors closed.

That looks like what is on out 2012 Phaeton. So far the residential fridge has never opened while traveling.
