Kirkland motor oil

I see that Costco has their own brand of synthetic motor oil. Like other Kirkland branded items, is it any good? Having a sale on 2 pack of 5qt containers for $25 delivered.

Ignorance is bliss (so they say at least) until you have a lubrication related failure. Then you'll change your tune.... as your wallet gets emptied.
  • Costco, Sams, Amazon, ( and most oils at auto stores) oils meet or beat the specs for most if not all vehicles. Check the specs for your engine and duty level and buy accordingly. If the spec says full synthetic get it otherwise buy what’s on sale. One nice thing about going electric is no more oil discussions.

No. that's not true. Oil is Oil plus chemical additives and some oils are more additive and some less.. Some (mobile one, at least it used to be) are full synthetic while others are sold as synthetic but are in fact highly refined dino oil Pennzoil for many years advertised how they used higher quality crude and thus had less additives. (True? you decide).

But there are a lot of differences between different brands, Mostly in the additive area but some others as well.
  • Kirkland's synthetic oil suppose to be the same oil as packaged for Amazon Basic synthetic oil. Project Farm did a test on Amazon's oil. If you like the results, either will do.

I just recently ordered a case of this to test out. It is approved by GM for all GM engines.

I use it in my grand daughters 2003 Chevy pickup with 180,000 miles on it. She'll burn through a quart about every 2,000 miles.

    Today's winner.

    I just bought 3 gallons of Delo (12 quarts) for $29.00 at Costco. That's $2.41 a quart.
  • Nothing agenst Kirkland but personally I like my motors way too much to use off brand oils. I have tried other rebranded oils in my work trucks in the past and soon realized there is far better places to save a buck or two.
  • Just bought 6 packs of Mobil 1 at Sams for $28.78.

    Sale ends 1/26.
