The starter button on the Kohler bypasses some of the safety issues. When the starter button is released the board takes over and if there is an issue shuts down the generator.
Two things would be low oil pressure and low voltage generation. Older Kohler RV generators were known for the voltage regulator going. Best thing is to find a manual for your generator and follow the troubleshooting section.
