lcd readouts on instrument panel on workhorse chasis

We have a 2004 class A motorhome with a workhorse chasis. The LCD panel is red with a dark rectangle within it, making it hard to read. All the functions do work. Is there a way to get rid of the dark rectangle? Would it help to reset it back to default, and if so how can I do this?
  • There was a recall on the panel back in 2004 and I have seen a few posts in the last few years that talk about a service bulletin but no one has ever posted a link and Actia didn't know anything about it when I called them. I have never seen a warranty statement on the panel.
    The recall info is:
    50402-C

Defect Summary: CERTAIN CLASS A MOTOR HOMES BUILT ON WORKHORSE CHASSIS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD (FMVSS) NO. 101, "CONTROLS AND DISPLAY" AND STANDARD NO. 105 "HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRIC BRAKE SYSTEMS." Consequence Summary: INCORRECT SOFTWARE MAY NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO ILLUMINATE WARNING LAMPS INDICATING BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURES. THE STANDARDS REQUIRE DRIVER WARNING WHEN BRAKE FAILURE CODES ARE SET.

  • The Actia LCD panels of that vintage had a known problem that was fixed by Workhorse warranty when they were still in business. If I remember right mine was fixed with a new FW update. Probably your best bet now is to talk to a Workhorse service center and find out what they can do for you.
  • If you go HERE you can download the complete manual for the Actia instrument panel. I think it has what you need.
