Leaking through bottom of slide

So, I purchased a used Class C Coachmen a couple of weeks back and today was our first heavy rain. I guess you know what's coming next. No leaks in the roof or windows, however there is water coming out and across my kitchen floor, which thankfully is linoleum.

I can see exactly what's happening, which is that rain is falling onto the roof of the slide, coming down the side of the slide and then pooling at the bottom corner where the big gasket is. A lot of the water is falling away as it should, but a solid stream is also running the other way, directly into my coach under the stove. I am completely level, by the way.

I have fixed the problem temporarily by putting a tarp over the entire slide, and I guess I could have unleveled the RV to make all the water pour the right direction, but neither of these is a solution.

I've heard some talk of slide awnings, but am not sure if this would solve this particular problem, so I wanted to post here and see if you have any ideas since you always come through :)

Thanks in advance for any advice

  • Our Coachmen leaks when the slide is in too. Ours is the driver-side slide that has the dinette (or couch in our case) and pantry cabinet. It has a slide topper awning, and only leaks when the slide is in.
We've had it back to the dealer and they can't find the problem, and I've looked and can't find a solution either.
  • Well, turned out most of my problem was that I just wasn't level enough to handle a heavy rain, and if I HAVE to be unlevel, it has to be slanted towards the direction my slide goes out, not the other way around.
  • Must be common on Coachmen my slide leaks when we drive in the rain under the kitchen sink which is part of the slide, I have to take up the floor under the sink to see where it is coming from hope it may just need some caulk as someone has mentioned unless there is someone else out there have the same problem.
  • I don't have a fridge in my slide out but I do have my cook top and my microwave, both of which have vents. I'll check on that, thanks! The caulk may work as a temporary measure but I need to find a more permanent solution. Thanks guys:)
  • How about a big bead of caulk to divert it away from that area.
  • Do you have a refrigerator in your slideout? When it's really windy, I have had water blow into the refrigerator side vents and leak in.
  • For many years now, slide outs have been equipped with awnings. You might consider getting one installed. I think that should resolve all or most of your problem. In the mean time, you might consider not leveling the rig, but rather set it with a slight lean in the direction of the slide out.
