Right on the best that suits you.
I think I have seen 5th wheel with minivan once at the rally.
Yes easier said than done...lol If I can ever get a test drive I'll be doing fine... hehe I'm still semi-working at my business, so I'm doing my search part time. I'm glad though, because I want to learn all about exactly what I like. I mean I got some spare cash, but not enough to make a couple 100k mistakes... Right? I got to do my due dilligence. Forgive me in advance if I pose the same questions, as I'm a bit forgetful... Not sure if I'm getting lazy, but it probably is...
Kayteg--> What do you have? I didn't see a Rig in your signature...

National Forest Service roads will be difficult to traverse with a 40+ foot RV. NFS campgrounds will be pretty much impossible to access.
We did a lot of national forest campgrounds in California and the other states with our 40'. It is very possible if you do your research. Also, boondocking - a favorite is all along Hwy 395.
Ok I have a tendency to believe what I want to hear but This is a 180 from the above sentence... Woul dthey be difficult from experience, or because it's so big that it woul dbe difficult to make tight turns where there are Trees near the edge of the road?
But, That is good to hear!

If I were in the market for a new motorhome I'd get a 40 footer. No worry about having a special license and no worry about road restrictions. Remember most tour buses are 45 five feet long and look at all the places they go. The biggest restriction isn't the roads, it's the campsites.
I think that is sound advice. The possibilities really open up when you get into the slightly larger Coaches. 38-40 I think would be a great comprimise...

CHP's budget comes from registration fees, not ticket revenue. They do not write tickets for the money.
That's good to know. But with my luck, they would just give me a ticket to look at my beautiful Coach...lol

We have a 40ft. and never have had a problem in CA or anywhere else for that matter. Most State parks here say Max. length is 38ft. but even our friends with a 43 ft. fit perfectly fine. Find the best that suits your fancy and you will be a happy camper :B
