Leveling jacks won't work

Thanks for all the suggestions.. believe me my husband did all the things that were suggested as far as starting the engine , the brakes etc.

The next day he looked in the engine compartment YET again and saw two buttons that were not mentioned in the manuals and books we got with the MH. He pushed those two darn buttons and low and behold the jack came down, the steps came out and everything went back to working correctly.. Something must have reset... We are back to being happy campers..
Just miss our old fifh wheel is all...Never had any problems with it.

This is an older motor home, but very well cared for and never looked as old as it is.. That's why we bought it..

Fleetwood usually uses power gear levelers. The best thing to do is go back to square one. Start the engine, Move the shift lever to PARK. Make sure you put the emergency brake on fully. Turn the levelers switch to ON. push front leveler switch and listen for leveler motor to run. Give that a try, could be that you missed a step somewhere in your procedure. Report back with results and we can go from there.

Since your coach is 13 years old and you have two things that are inoperative when the rig is parked, I'd suspect you have a relay that has worn out. Most of the time they fail intermittently, but not always.

Relay (or solenoids) look like little beer cans with large copper posts on each side and two small connections near the bottom. You probably have several in your electrical bay. (The are identical to the solenoids that were used for starters in most cars in the 50's and 60's.)

The one that controls things that should be powered up when your coach is parked should "click" when you turn the key. Have someone listen for it when the key is turned. Just because it "clicks" doesn't mean it is working. You'll have to check it with a meter to see if power is being passed thru.

Well, first off, congrats on your new adventure, problems and all. RVs are no different than anything else man-made, THEY BREAK every once in a while. The first thing you want to do is, keep a level head and, try to logically proceed with potential fixes which, it sounds like your HUZ has been doing. Good!

Now, It's great that you listed what kind of coach and model. As for your Jacks, as has been asked, what make and or, possible model number are they? If all fuses seem to be good and, operational procedures have been followed, i.e. parking brake, engine OFF or ON, depending on requirements, and in "PARK" etc. then, you'll have to proceed to phase two of analyzing this kind of issue. That means are you ACTUALLY GETTING POWER to the pump etc.? You'll (your HUZ) will need a test light to tell if power's getting to the pump when buttons are pushed.

If you're getting power to the pump, well, it's possible a motor has gone south. If no power, then obviously, a search is in order to find out why and, where the break down in power supply is. And, speaking of that, make sure you're getting power to the buttons i.e. Panel, that controls all of them. Could be a loose wire behind that panel. Been known to happen.

As for the step, there's couple of things here too. One, make sure the ignition is in the proper position. Most need the key in the "Off" position for the steps to work properly. Once the ignition is turned on, the steps will retract automatically when the door is closed. Or, they'll retract automatically if, you have a door switch that's in the "Park" position. By "Park" I mean, the steps go in, every time you close the door, to keep from tripping over them while in a park or, camp site.

But, as you've indicated, they may not work in any position of any switch. Again, fuses, then, make sure power is getting to the little motor down there. AND TELL HIM TO BE CAREFULL! Those steps are NOT FORGIVING! If they operate while he's checking them out, some serious injuries can happen. BE CAREFULL! Some, have got their steps to start working again with tap on the motor from a small hammer. Those little motors can sometimes freeze up in a certain position and, need to be jarred to break free.

Try some of these possible tips. Hope something works for you. Good luck and happy RVing.
