My wife and I are 62 this year (in good shape) and we are very happy to be sleeping on the main floor. An over-head bunk would be an issue, especially during mid-night potty interruptions.
They could consider a telescoping ladder. Our old rooftop tent had one, and I've thought about using one in here. If it'll fit behind the drivers seat, it's worth a look.
