We travelled through 28 states this summer. Even though we warned our credit card issuer about this, we were normally shut down about every three days. We'd use a second card when this happened to pay for the purchase, then call the fraud department for the first card and get it reset. Since we've been victims of credit card theft in the past, we were happy they were keeping tabs on the unusual spending patterns.
