I find the common theme on this thread that a lender has no right to know where the card or cardholder is rather amusing. First, it's not your card, it belongs to the bank. You are allowed to use it. Second, if your card was stolen and started travelling wouldn't you want your bank to flag it before serious damage is done? Damage which we eventually all pay for and frankly could be used to fund heinous crimes? And lastly, the bank has all the information they need to know exactly where you are if you are using the card. The paranoia some folks have on here is not only unfounded but it's a moot point. These risk measures are in effect to protect everyone involved and deter crime and it's mandated. It is not to find out when you aren't home so they can loot your house. I mean really, do you honestly think that of the millions of cardholders some customer service rep in North Dakota, or even India is waiting for you to call to tell them you are travelling so they can deploy moving trucks sitting on standby to empty your house? It's a rhetorical question because it doesn't matter anyway. The bank already knows where and who you are. All that information is captured real time. You can't really hide that you aren't home. I don't get it. And finally, some even refuse to show ID at point of sale? Really? what are you Derek Jeter afraid of a mob? These paranoid actions are exactly how criminals want you to behave. Because people trying to hide something don't want anyone to know who they are and what they are doing. You behaving this way makes it easier for them. Rant away. I'm done on this silliness.
