light strip attached to Motor home below awning?

I would like to put a light strip attached to my motor home right below the awning when it's retracted.
Any recommendations on what to use?
How do I attach it to the side of the motor home.
I want to be able to use it if the awning is in or out, so I don't want to attach it to the awning. Doing this to provide lighting on the patio side more so then multi colored light decoration.
Thanks
Brian
  • Mine is just slid down a track in the roller when it is open. Like said above pay a little extra for a good string of led's
  • 3m I believe makes a double sided , grey tape that fits the width of the led strip. I bought it in a 30’ roll from Amazon. Buy waterproof leds coated or enclosed they come both ways . I have both and they both work . The adhesive tape that comes on most led strings is not good enough. The 3m tape has held for 2 years now across the country and back twice

Just as food for thought as to an alternative, I put a couple of LED licence plate lights just underneath the coach along the right side.

They are very weather proof, invisible and light up the ground, not us. They reflect enough light up if we’re on a concrete pad to nicely illuminate the patio area but we don’t feel like we’re in a fish bowl. More than a few neighbours have commented on how unobtrusive they are too.
  • Make sure they are weatherproof. I've put up several, over the last few years. Never got good results with the sticky side tape. Always used clear silicone. Got strips on both sides of the MH. Never had those stuck with silicone come loose.
  • I mounted mine to the siding just under the gutter rail. When the awning is retracted there is an inch or so between the awning roll and the siding, so the lights are still somewhat useable. I cleaned the siding with alcohol before mounting using the self adhesive light strips and they have stayed put. But a seam in the gutter rail has leaked a small amount of water across the supposedly waterproof strips, and I have had to replace the lights yearly because they corrode. Last year I placed a small piece of eternabond at the seam, and to each end of the light strip. So far, so good with this one.
