Thanks for the replies so far. I just ran the engine and all is OK right now. The fridge was only off for a couple of hours so it is still cold. I did not bring my multi meter on this trip.
My gut tells me the house batteries are not being charged. Any idea what kind of $ damages I may be looking at?
Guy,
I agree that the hotel bank is not getting charged.
Buy a cheapy VOM and make it part of the coach kit. Even the 2$ at Hazard Fright beats what you have now.
It is very unlikely that the reefer is on the main engine battery. If it is, that should be changed as soon as you can do that or get it done.
What could it be?
It could be that the converter's AC breaker is open.
* Locate and reset - 0$
Confirm that the converter has been switched off the hotel bank.
* Look for a battery disconnect - 0$
It could be that the converter has "crow-barred" and is waiting to be reset.
* Power down and power back up again - 0$
The connections to the hotel bank are bad.
* Clean and re-assemble - 10$ if you have nothing otherwise 0$
Check (visual until you get a meter) the converters output fuses.
* Replace blown fuses - 5$
Now we are up to things that need a meter.
A very good replacement converter will be 2~300$us. Go with a 3 or 4 stage Progressive Dynamics or Iota.
But first, go get a meter.
This is the work I did lots of on expensive boats before the depression shut us down. I used to give clients a cheap meter just so I knew they had it when the VHF call came in.
