Locking gas caps? Do you use them? My diesel being stolen

I fail to see the humor or sarcasm in talking of the use of deadly force.

I had $200 plus dollars wroth stolen last month didn't think about murdering the thief. Of course I am a trained rational Police Officer with no lust to kill people imbedded in my psyche.

To the OP lock caps can help but remember locks generally only keep out the honest.

Was parked at Elks Lodge in Florida. Came out in the morning and found someone had stolen the gas cap from my Jeep Tow'd. Replaced it with a locking cap. No fuel was missing, just the cap. They didn't touch the coach with its two unlocked cap.,Maybe the sound of the restless bear in there drove them off.

We have/had the same set-up as you. I didn't notice it at first and then realized that the fuel door had a lock but not the bay door. I had Monaco put a locking 'lock' on that door like the others and they did if for free.

We don't have propane on the coach so it was not under any kind of regulation. I'm assuming that it is illegal to lock a propane door?

I would guess you would need a locking gas cap on the fuel fill spout.

My father owned and operated a VW repair shop from our home in rural Maine. There were always many customers VWs in our unsecured yard. It was rural maine afterall. We didn't ever lock our doors and always left the keys in the ignitions of our own vehicles. Anyway... one night, coming home late from bowling... we smell gas and find a siphon hose sticking out of a customers VWs gas tank and still gas still flowing. The 5 gallon jug is full but the gas is now going onto the ground.

Evidently, we caught the perp in the act and he/she bolted, leaving their can and hose. LOL!

Another time, I was in the woods near the "junkyard". I found a pile of about fifty 12 volt car batteries. At the time (mid 70's) used batteries were bringing $5 each for scrap. I asked dad why he was putting the batteries in a pile in the woods!? LOL! He wasn't! Evidently, a neighborhood thief was removing the batteries from the 100's of junk cars in the junkyard and piling them up in the woods to eventually take to the scrap yard.

Heard of guys in big trucks parking alongside each other and pumping fuel out of someones tanks that way. Wish I'd catch someone doing it. I'd reverse the lines and let it fun on the ground, then call the RD and tell them the truth.

Some where, perhaps on on of the forums someone told of labeling the black tang as gas or diesel. Not sure how the RV was configured. I think they did siphon some good stuff.
