I have a Go-Pro, It is a little pricey but it does what it says. I switch it out to what every vehicle we are in. They have mounts for just about any thing. They start out at $199 to $399. You can get them up to 12 mp. Amazon has them on sale every once in a while. They did have a bad bios update but that was corrected pretty fast.
I like the dedicated dash cams because they can be set up to automatically turn on and off with the vehicles ignition. And they automatically overwrite old files.
