TESTING PARK POWER...I need your advice on 50amp VoltMeters to check park power and/or Surge Proctectors?
Do you use them?
What kind?
Where to buy?
Do you think they're necessary?
and ALL comments? ...THANKS!!
Surge Protector, you bet, I use it every time and you have to completely believe in it. I have been at a few parks where the Surge Protector kept turning off the power to my unit. When I contacted the park manager they would say it was my Surge Protector and not their power post. I never believe the park people, I never turn it off (they will tell you to turn it off), I move to a different site and then no problems with the electric. One time, I moved to several sites and all where setting off the surge protector, I left the park to one down the road and no problems there. For some reasons a lot of the park managers don't like them and will always blame the protector. Also, get the Surge Protector that protects you from low voltage, that is going on more at the RV parks. You can search the forum on all of the posts on low voltage damage that can be done over time. I had some RV Parks that get full on a holiday that went down to only 90 volts.
I also test the power post with a voltmeter for low voltage, wires cross, bad ground, open neutral, etc and you can buy one at Home Depot or any hardware store. They are easy to use and come with directions. It only take a few minutes and I keep it with the rig power cord sitting on top so I don't forget.
