SUBJECT: SKYLIGHT REPLACEMENT
I don’t know how many or if any of you have replaced your outer skylights since you have owned your MHs, but we’ve had our MH since 6/05 and have replaced the skylight over the kitchen once and the skylight over the shower twice, because they became brittle and cracked and started leaking. I just got back from having one replaced and complained to the dealer that the skylights should last longer than 18-24 months. Something is wrong somewhere if we are going to have to replace them every two years. I was told they had received a letter from Fleetwood that upon the sale of ‘new’ MHs to check skylights for cracks due to sitting in the sun for long periods of time and becoming brittle, and to replace them before owners take possession, and current owners need to be aware that this may happen.
Now, I have to replace the inside portion of the skylight as well, because when they removed the outside portion, the suction between the two caused the inside portion to crack and break, and pieces broke out.
When I had one replaced this week I asked to have the old one back because I’m going to send it back to Fleetwood along with a letter and copies of the bills showing where we’ve had them replaced several times. I’m going to tell them they need to either find another supplier or manufacturer that can produce something that’s going to last longer. Our previous MH (a ’95 Fleetwood Coronado) had a skylight and we only had it replaced because it was 10 years old and we were selling it and wanted to make the top look good. So what’s the difference now!!
I may not see anything out of this but I’m going to put my two cents in.
Just sharing my problem!!
