Bad vacuum check valve. When accelerating hard, you have low vacuum in the intake. The vacuum in the reservoir will bleed backwards to the engine, the blend door will open allowing warm air to go around the evaporator, giving you warm/hot air. The check valve prevents this. When the throttle returns to a partially closed position, the vacuum will increase in the intake and reservoir, returning the blend door to the proper position.
