That side molding is installed to cover the screws or bolts used to fasten the wall to the edge of the floor frame. There should be an aluminum tubing runner there, so the awning bracket gets fastened to an aluminum tube rather than the foam core of the wall, or with long enough screws, fastened to the steel tubing of the floor frame.
I don't think you are going to find a stronger mounting point anywhere else on the wall. I suspect what has happened was the result of an awning handling accident, or a wind accident, with enough force to pull the awning bracket screws out of the aluminum framing member.
When manufacturers install awnings needing a different mounting system, they will usually put a mounting plate (metal or plywood) inside the laminated wall. In the absence of that, the floor-wall joint is usually the strongest place on the wall.
