I have a 2" (I think--maybe 3") memory foam topper from Big Lots, trimmed to fit the shorter RV mattress. It works well and is a tremendous improvement in comfort and was reasonably priced.
Memory foam can be cut very easily with an electric carving knife (think turkey) and only slightly less so with a serrated bread knife (which is what I used). Do let it air out for a good long time in a very well ventilated place or out-of-doors before sleeping on it; they tend to emit very annoying fumes when brand new.
