After a few post, I went out to recheck the fan. I'm just as confused now as I was before BUT::::: The round foam frame between the interior and the fan has MaxxAir written/embossed into it. That's why I said it was MaxxAir. I shined a light up and onto the motor assembly and it says Fantastic Vent so I assume that is what it is with a MaxxAir foam grill.
As far as the operation goes, I'll try to summarize it here.
1. The wall switch does nothing. The fan, temperature sensor and auto close works so it makes no difference if the switch is off or on.
2. It will not automatically open regardless of what position any switch is.
3. I can manually crank it open and the fan automatically starts, if the dial switch is on 1, 2, or 3. If the switch is off, the motor does not run.
4 With the automatic knob pushed up (in the auto mode), it does not automatically close UNTIL I turn the fan speed switch off THEN turn it back on. If I leave it in auto mode and turn the fan speed switch off, it does nothing,,, until I turn the fan back on.
5. When it is closing in the auto mode, the fan does shut the fan off when it gets down almost closed.
6. When I manually open the vent and turn the fan on, everything works normally EXCEPT when I turn the fan off and then turn it back on. When I turn it back on, I can hear the auto close motor running but it does not close. This is with the knob pulled out (manual mode). I can't get the auto close motor to stop running until I push the knob back in (auto mode). It will then close the vent and shut the fan back off. I have to manually open the vent and turn the fan back on to get it to go again.
7. The temperature sensor does work as it should.
I think this is not the way it's supposed to work. I have no idea where to look for the problem.
That is a base model and it is working just as it was designed. Do you know if it has a rain sensor so that it will close automatically if rain is detected? You will have to go up on the roof with it open to see if that is incorporated into your model or not since you do not have the manual for it. Right now, I think probably not as there is no such indication in your picture.
