Maxx Air vent fan (UPDATED WITH NEW INFO)

Somebody tell me exactly how this Maxx Air vent is supposed to work. Right now, I can manually crank the lid open and turn the speed to any of the three speeds and I can also control when it comes on by turning the 'temperature' knob. To do this, I have to turn on the wall switch. To shut it off, I can turn the knob to the off position or I can push the "automatic" knob then turn the fan on and the lid will automatically close. There is nothing automatic about the whole thing since I have to turn this, push that, flip this switch, turn this knob. That's to turn it on. It's almost as bad turning it off. I think a manual fan would be much easier. I thought this one would automatically open and close with the wall switch.

That's a Fantastic Vent, not a Maxxfan. I would guess the installer just hooked it to a simple wall switch- turn it off and the vent has no power to close.
It may or may not open and close with the temp sensor.

Beat me to it. Fan-tastic Vent..... Not Maxxfan.

Looks like that is an older model with the mechanical speed switch and temp knob. New ones have touch buttons (I'll take the old time ones any day). Fantastic is now owned by Atwood and they have started modernizing the products, and the web site is very lacking in instructions for use or installation, for new ones let alone older ones.

Give them a call at 800-521-0298 and I'll bet they can get you instructions for your model if you describe the controls you have.

  • Come on now Bumpy,
There is absolutely nothing better than curling up by the fire with the dog at my feet on a stormy night with a nice stack of owner's manuals to read.

  • I'm with you. Fans should not be complicated. Manual=way easier. I like "on" and "off". :)
  • Ours doesn't have a temp control so it's a little different. If the knob is pushed in, AUTO, turn on wall switch. Lid opens, fan starts. Speed is controlled by the switch on the fan. Turn off wall switch, lid closes, fan shuts off. That's pretty straight forward. Now if you want to you can pull the knob and open the lid by hand. Maybe you only want it open a little, you can do that by hand but not in auto mode. If you just want vent open and no fan turn the speed switch to off.
  • I just (5 min ago) wrestled with how to use ours on our new, to us, coach and was getting ready to dig out the manual...I'll just watch this thread! :-)
