Mercedes sprinter code

I have a friend who was leaving this morning for a 5 week trip in a Winnebago view / sprinter.
His check engine light came on this morning.
I used a scan tool and got a code of P22A1.
This is not a Mercedes code. I understand Mercedes codes are hard to read except by a dealer.
He is trying to get it checked in the morning, I just wondered if anyone here had a similar problem and could shed some light.
I believe it is a 2013, @ 3.6L diesel. Probably about 15K miles.

The two options in his manual both say if he drives it it will either shut the motor down completely, or throw it into "safe mode".

  • A CEL will not necessarily cause it to shut down or go into limp mode. The engine will have to sense a serious problem and an NOx sensor likely isn't one of them. That is smog stuff and will be a warranty issue.
  • A search turned up this ....

Condition OEM DTC P22A1 and P229F
Check NOx sensors bank 1, sensor 2 with scan tool for proper activity, inspect wiring at connectors

  • I've never had to move a post. Is it something I can do, or just wait for a moderator to fix my error?

E mail sent to moderator. Thanks.
