Wow, lots of great feedback from my original post! Thanks all who took the time to respond!!
I am now leaning more toward replacing the stems rather than a TPMS that screws onto existing valves I presume? I have several questions about the steel replacement stems...when I talked to a lady selling the duallyvalve product she said the inside tire straight valve stem was 7" long. Well, I measured the distance from the steel wheel to the aluminum wheel cover and it was just 7" long also. That seems to me to be cutting it awfully close. She mentioned that there was a "double seal flow-thru valve cap" that they also sold which would bring it out another 3/4" or so, which might be just enough? I think maybe one of your posts mentioned this type of valve cap. So bottom line...are my fears about not getting out beyond the wheel cover justified? I am also a little skeptical about the outer dually tire as it seems the new metal stem if I buy them would have to make an almost 180 degree turn to get back outside of the wheel cover? Am I missing something here? I guess they wouldn't sell them if they couldn't do the job but they sure don't look like they would work! LOL
I can just get to my front rubber valve stems with the wheel cover on so don't feel they need replacing, but it wouldn't cost much to go ahead and have them all done if that is the route I take. Several of you seemed to have doubts with all rubber valve stems. BTW, the lady I talked to said the inner rear valve stem probably had an extension on it to get it out to the approx. 4" it is now. I didn't think so, but upon inspection she was correct....a 2" extension was on it presumably from the Mercedes factory. Snoop
