Thanks. These posts directed me back to the owner's manual, where, yes, there's a brief little mention of the "hi" message. It says, "don't operate the vehicle when this message displays." Ooops. This thread motivated me finally to look at the service receipts given us by the previous owners, who told us they'd had the oil changed six months before we bought it. Turns out it was a year before we bought it, and it's now overdue for an oil change.
We haven't had occasion to put any oil in since we bought it, and the dipstick has shown as just fine.
What would cause oil level to be too high, other than a mistake by the shop doing the work? Does diesel leak down from the combustion chamber into the oil? Does the oil expand when it's warm, and moreso when it gets good and hot?
