...Lemme guess: The Class A in question, with the 10k hitch receiver but can only tow about half that, was a Thor Palazzo? The Palazzo is one that is known for exactly what you are talking about here - a very hefty 10k hitch receiver, on a MH that in reality can only tow about half that.
All too common, I'm afraid. RVs in general, are definitely a 'buyer beware' market. Got to do your research and read all the fine print.
